Expressions of interest are being sought for two prestigious PhD scholarships, who want to help solve problems associated with age-related eye disease.
The scholarships, offered by the University of Western Australia and the Lions Eye Institute, start in 2023 and are available for optometrists or other related professionals.
The PhD candidates will be part of a team will be working on research designed to improve the assessment of visual disorder in glaucoma, macular conditions and/or diabetes.

The Alvina King PhD Scholarship in Optometry and the Francis and Edna Jones Memorial Scholarship in Optometry will be based at UWA/LEI in Perth.
PhD supervisor Professor Allison McKendrick says the environment is “highly interdisciplinary, involving leading optometry, ophthalmology and data science researchers”.
“If you want to solve problems associated with age-related eye disease, enjoy working with others, and are keen to pursue a research higher degree, this might be the ideal opportunity for you,” she said.
Projects will involve human clinical research data collection and data science techniques.
