Shamir has launched Shamir Sun Intelligence, a new optical design built specifically for prescription sunglasses, as part of a broader ‘Sun Rx by Shamir’ offering aimed at simplifying how outdoor prescription lenses are prescribed and dispensed.
The lens manufacturer said the design was developed using artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle the particular optical challenges of the sun category, where frame curvature, tint, and outdoor light conditions all place extra demands on lens performance.
Built For Movement and Varied Frame Shapes
According to Shamir, Sun Intelligence combines several optical design elements to suit a wide range of sunglass frames and prescriptions, from flat styles through to wraparound shapes. The company said the design supports wide fields of view, sharper vision while in motion, and clearer near vision for viewing digital devices outdoors, helping wearers adapt to shifting focus distances and frequent gaze changes as they move between environments.
Colour, Coating, and Fit
The Sun Rx by Shamir offering pairs the new optical design with two further Shamir technologies. Shamir Vital is a colour enhancement technology intended to make outdoor scenes appear more vivid, while Shamir Glacier Sun UV is an anti-reflection and anti-UV coating designed to protect wearers’ eyes and improve resistance to tint fading and scratching.
Shamir’s iFit frame-fit measurement tool, which uses AI to detect and measure pupils through tinted lenses, is also positioned as part of the Sun Rx workflow, giving eye care professionals a way to ensure accurate fitting by detecting and measuring pupils through tinted lenses.
Shamir said the combined design and technology package is intended to give eye care professionals a more streamlined way to dispense sun prescription lenses with confidence, regardless of the frame a patient chooses.
