Patients across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa region now have access to a new day hospital, with ophthalmology positioned as a cornerstone specialty.
Officially opened on Thursday 8 October 2026, the AU$9.5 million Noosa Day Hospital is located within the Noosa Specialist Medical Centre at 36 Hofmann Drive, Noosaville.
The facility is Cura Day Hospitals Group’s 39th hospital nationally and its third on the Sunshine Coast, providing Noosa with its first standalone multidisciplinary day hospital.
The opening was marked by a ceremonial ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling attended by Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien, State Member for Noosa Sandy Bolton MP, and Noosa Mayor Frank Wilkie.
Noosa Day Hospital has been designed to provide patients with a modern, convenient and high-quality surgical experience
Cura Day Hospitals Group Chief Executive Officer Peter Freeleagus said the hospital had been developed in response to growing local demand for accessible, high-quality specialist healthcare.
“With almost 30% of Noosa’s population aged 65 years and over, access to timely surgery close to home is increasingly important. Noosa Day Hospital has been designed to provide patients with a modern, convenient and high-quality surgical experience, without the need to travel outside the region.”
Like all Cura hospitals on the Sunshine Coast, Mr Freeleagus said the new Noosa facility provides ophthalmology “as a core specialty”.
“The facility has been purpose-built to support surgeons and their patients, with carefully considered theatre workflows, modern surgical infrastructure and equipment selections that enhance efficiency, safety and patient experience.”
The single-level hospital features three operating theatres, seven first-stage recovery beds and ten second-stage recovery recliner chairs, providing capacity to meet increasing demand for day surgery services as the region continues to grow.
A streamlined patient journey, from admission through to discharge, supports high-volume day procedures while maintaining personalised care.
