Hunter Valley optometrist and artist Julie Purdie’s painting ‘Where the Eye Rests’ is now on display at Michael Reid Southern Highlands in Berrima, New South Wales.
The 76 cm × 76 cm work is the largest painting in Ms Purdie’s Sightlines series, which draws on her experience in vision science to explore how people perceive the Australian landscape.
Influenced by the physiology of vision, Ms Purdie was a finalist in the 2025 Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize and the 2024 National Emerging Art Prize.

Ms Purdie has worked in optometry for almost three decades and currently practises in the Hunter Valley.
