A giant eye is one of the feature floral sculptures on display in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens as part of the ‘Autumn in Your Garden’ festival.
The eye was created from pieces of palm, complemented by man-made materials, by Elizabeth Fuller, of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
The giant eye, which is almost a metre across, hangs at eye level from the branch of a tree. Elizabeth Fuller said it was the shape of the palm lying on the ground that suggested the eye to her.
Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, encourages artists to work with nature to create individual arrangements. The floral sculptures will be on display in the Botanic Gardens until 28 April.
