Oculus will launch its new Pentacam Cornea optical coherence tomographer (OCT) at the European Society of Cataract and Retinal Surgeons conference in Barcelona (6-10 September 2024).
The Pentacam Cornea OCT combines Scheimpflug technology with the world’s first pericentric OCT scanning system to provide Scheimpflug images and ultra high-resolution OCT images of the cornea within a matter of seconds. Both measurements are taken simultaneously at the very same locations, enabling immediate and detailed visualisation of all anomalies.
the Pentacam Cornea OCT illuminates the intricate layers of the cornea with such precision, it’s like turning on a light in a dark room
According to a statement from Oculus, the combination of Cornea OCT and Scheimpflug imaging allows for comprehensive corneal assessment, providing precise measurements of all refractive layers and detailed visualisation of sublayers, which is crucial for early ectasia detection, optimal surgical planning and post-operative care.
Professor Renato Ambrósio Jr, an internationally recognised expert in corneal diagnostics from Brazil, said “the Pentacam Cornea OCT illuminates the intricate layers of the cornea with such precision, it’s like turning on a light in a dark room”.
The new Pentacam Cornea OCT is compatible with all existing Pentacam examination data, regardless of the model and software version. This compatibility simplifies follow-up examinations and progression analysis.
